SARAH J. READ concentrates her Missouri practice in the areas of negotiation, mediation, arbitration, legislation, organizations, and law practice management. Prior to moving to Missouri, she was a partner at Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago, Illinois, working with its Antitrust, Commercial and Regulatory Litigation group on energy law issues and the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) resource group.  She now serves on the American Arbitration Association’s Commercial Panel as both an arbitrator and also mediates regulatory and other complex issues.  In 2009, she was appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Ms. Read has advised a variety of corporate clients on ADR issues and has helped with the design and implementation of several "collaborative processes."  She has presented programs on ADR issues through various groups, including the American Arbitration Association, American Bar Association, Association of Missouri Mediators, and The Missouri Bar.  She is a past chair of The Missouri Bar's Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, is currently serving with The Missouri Bar's Lawyer to Lawyer Dispute Resolution program, and is an active member of the Association of Missouri Mediators.

Ms. Read also works with corporate and association clients to draft legislation, and during her career she has worked on several large legislative matters, including the negotiation and drafting of the Illinois "Electric Service Customer Choice and Rate Relief Law of 1997" and telecommunications restructuring legislation in various states.

Ms. Read is a member of the American and Chicago Bar Associations and the Missouri and Wisconsin Bars, and is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in Illinois and Wisconsin, and the state courts of Missouri.  She received her B.A. degree, cum laude, in 1978 from Yale University and her Juris Doctor degree with the Order of the Coif from the University of Wisconsin in 1981.  She received her initial mediation training from the Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago in 1992, and also completed the MIT-Harvard Public Disputes Program in 1992.  Sarah was recently hired to provide training in both arbitration and mediation skills for the Missouri Bar Fee Dispute Resolution program.
